“House Three Thirty is for the entire community, so it’s important to us that we open our doors and share what we’re building as the renovation is in progress,” said Michele Campbell, executive director of the LeBron James Family Foundation. “We are so excited about the opportunities, jobs, and experiences House Three Thirty is going to provide for our I Promise families and everyone who visits. House Three Thirty, immediately to the right, is a spacious area where JP Morgan Chase will provide financial planning assistance for I Promise families and community members. At 17 years, Chase is the foundation’s longest partner, Campbell said, so it’s appropriate that the financial institution be the first brand visitors see.

In another area, a bookshelf becomes a hidden doorway into a secret coffee room, which will double as a conference space. Teachers will be encouraged to bring in their favorite coffee recipes to try out, she said.
As for how the foundation decided what businesses, event spaces and resources would be included at House Three Thirty, Campbell pointed to the needs of Akron families. This was the first chance for a glimpse at the transformation of what had been the landmark Tangier, a longtime Akron restaurant, nightclub and event space which the foundation bought in December of 2020. House Three Thirty will open in stages to enable trainees to adapt comfortably while they continue to train, the foundation said. A barber shop and beauty parlor with braiding station are also on hand, enabling trainees to sign up for appointments. The community space is located in the former Tangier event center on West Market Street in downtown Akron. All of this will be supported by a 10,000-square-foot kitchen — billed as one of the largest of its kind in Northeast Ohio — that is literally being built from the ground up inside of the old Tangier. The eatery is expected to open to the public once work is completed next year on the other spaces. The Smucker Hometown Hall event and rental space has already hosted some weddings, parties and graduations.
